Hello and welcome to this review of the Cuisinart DGB-900BC. Over the course of this short review, I would like to try and inform you all about the key issues and features of this coffee maker. Hopefully after reading you will be able to make a confident decision when it comes to buying your next coffee maker.

The Cuisinart DGB-900BC is a grind and brew machine, this means that one of the biggest hassles of making coffee is removed from the process all together. All we have to do here is pour the appropriate amount of beans into the grind basket and we are good to go. If you are anything like me this will come as a very welcome addition, because when I get up first thing in the morning, I want as little hassle as possible when it comes to making my coffee.

The Cuisinart DGB-900BC also comes with a thermal carafe, I think that this is both a blessing and a curse at the same time. While the thermal carafe has a lot of features that are desirable there are at least a couple that could be done without. First is the fact that the pour rate is reduced, and it can take us quite a while to get a cup of coffee. The second is the fact that we have to take the lid off the carafe to get the last bit of coffee.

After that however there are not many things I can say that are negative about this coffee maker. The coffee brewed is very hot and stays that way for a good few hours after brewing. The carafe also does not need to be pre-heated, as it is heated from beneath by a warming plate. Of course if you still want to pre-warm the carafe you can and you will most likely see better results with regard to how long the coffee stays hot, but it's another of those things we don't really want to have to do first thing in the morning.

Founded in 1971, Cuisinart is a brand of kitchen appliances and one of the first to garner popularity in the United States. The company was founded by Carl Sontheimer nearly 40 years ago, initially finding its success through its food processor of the same name.

Sontheimer was born in New York City in 1914. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received an engineering degree. While attending MIT, Sontheimer became fascinated with microwave radiation technology, while simultaneously allegedly being devastated by the atrocious food served at his fraternity.

After graduating from MIT, Sontheimer invented a series of technical devices, totaling 47 patented items. His most successful was a microwave direction finger, which was eventually used by NASA in missions to the moon. Before 1970, Sontheimer had started, flourished with, and subsequently sold a series of electronics and engineering companies.

Despite this success, Sontheimer was constantly searching for a new project, this time hoping to combine his business savvy with his lifelong passion for cooking. He returned to France, where he had spent most of his childhood, and discovered a new kitchen appliance that web.mit.edu would describe as an "elaborate industrial blender." "That machine game me the horrors," Sontheimer later stated. "It was totally unsafe."

Despite the clear danger, Sontheimer and his wife, Shirley, quickly realized this invention could be modified to work well as a home kitchen appliance. Sontheimer quickly acquired the rights to the invention, and after months of modifications, the "Cuisinart" was ready for the kitchen.

After a few years, the public realized the advantage of this new kitchen appliance. Never before had housewares been able to provide cutting, chopping, grating and blending in such a convenient and easy-to-use fashion.

As for the future, Sontheimer only envisioned new kitchen appliances as getting more compact.

"The population will grow; land will not," he said. "There will be less living space, and kitchens will have to grow smaller. There will also be less storage space and less energy available per person. All ovens will be convection ovens; food processors will become more capable."

Sontheimer sold the Cuisinart Company for $42 million in 1987. Without their founder, the corporation would fail and was forced to file for bankruptcy less than two years later. Eventually, Cuisinart would be bought by the Conair Corporation, which still owns the discount kitchen appliances brand today.

Meanwhile, Sontheimer would return to his passion for cuisine, producing two cookbooks as well as a bimonthly magazine, entitled The Pleasures of Cooking. He passed away in March of 1998, at the age of 83.

3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 red bell pepper
salt and pepper to taste

First, you are going to want to roast the pepper over an open flame. Just turn on a burner on your stove and set the pepper right on the flame. Turn it with tongs until it is blackened and then put it in a paper bag for ten minutes. This will loosen the skin so it is easy to peel. Peel the pepper, cut off the top and remove the seeds and membrane. Then just blend everything up!

I bought my first Oster toaster oven after my kids left for college 6 years ago. I needed something for making toast, baked potatoes, and small casseroles. This oven turned out to be a work horse. We use it everyday and it is especially helpful during Thanksgiving as I roast veggies or heat up a tall casserole full of dressing. I really like that it came with two racks and that the bottom rack goes down far enough to accommodate a large round casserole dish with lid. So now I need to replace it. After years of great service the finish is wearing off and the handle fell off, which is why I gave it 4 stars. After looking at other models and reading thousands of reviews I ordered another Oster from Amazon. I could not find another oven for the money that was as versatile and attractive as this model. The retro style of the Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-cup brew central coffeemaker was what first got me to notice it. I love anything retro, and this coffeemaker is just screaming of everything vintage, especially the black stainless steel design. But of course, it took more than retro before I bought this.

With the previous coffeemakers I bought, I thought there was something wrong with the coffee. Somehow I was not that satisfied with my morning coffee, so I figured there must be something wrong with the brand of coffee I used to buy. So I switched to different coffee brands but still I knew there was something wrong with my coffee.

One time, I decided to seek the help of a trusty sales clerk, and from our conversation I found out that it's possible there's absolutely nothing wrong with my coffee, but my coffeemaker. I was surprised, and initially I thought that he was just trying to sell me a coffeemake, which he did, but I still figured it was worth the shot at another coffeemaker, than to suffer forever with bad morning coffee.

I purchased the DCC-1200 from Cuisinart, the black stainless steel as I've mentioned before, and my coffee experience has never been the same. Coffee from this machine is so much better-tasting, richer, and has richer aroma. Also the features are great. There are 1-4 cup selection, there's a water filter you can choose to use or not use, and has the best carafe I've ever used.

Of course, as I've mentioned before what I love is the retro design, especially the dials! It not only works perfectly, but I love how it looks in my kitchen, looking all vintage and shiny and cool. I love the Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-cup brew central coffeemaker, and it's definitely worth the extra dollars it costs.

I have been using this exact model for over a year now and LOVE it! We have 7 in our family and so make at least a loaf a day. It works great with regular bread and also with the gluten free stuff we make for some of the kids.

The loaf pan is actually horizontal so it makes normal shaped loaves instead of the weird square ones that most machines crank out.

One note: We keep ours in the basement because it beeps. REALLY BEEPS. Loud, long and all throughout the cycle. I think there are 4 times in a 3 hours cycle when it starts beeping. I don't remember the codes, but it beeps loudly 16(!) times when it's done. 16! Anyway, we moved it to be basement because it was waking the kids early in the morning when it started mixing.

But, it's so worth it when you wake to the smell of fresh baked bread.

Did you know that 63% of Americans are overweight and many people suffer severe health problems because of the food that they eat? There are several ways to cut back on the time spent cooking and preparing food for your family without denting your budget or preparing less than nutritious meals.

THE PLAN

The first important step in starting anything new is to have a plan. First things first, decide how much money you can invest every month on groceries. Make sure you take in account all of the extra items you need for breakfast, and lunch. The plan I have in place is simple. The basic ingredients you should always have in your kitchen should be purchased from a bulk retailer like Cosco, or Sam's Club, where you can purchase large amounts of certain ingredients for a fraction of the price.

For all of your fruits and veggies, try shopping at your local farmer's market. You will save a ton of money and you are supporting your local economy. Now take a look at all the meals you would normally make in a month and find all of the common ingredients. You will probably see, to list a few, Chicken, Pork, Beef, Olive Oil, Garlic, Rice, Pasta, Corn, Green Beans, Cheese, Eggs and Milk. Then you must decide which items will store for a long period of time, that can be bought in bulk, that you can save money on. Shop once a month for these items. Why go to the store several times a month for groceries.

THE EXECUTION

Write your recipes in chronological order. I'm sure you are wondering " What does that mean?". I mean write your recipes down in an order in which one recipe could flow into another recipe. If your going to have Sausage and Peppers over Rice tonight, you should make 3 x the amount your family would consume. When everyone is finished eating dinner you simply throw your Sausage and Peppers into a blender and turn it into a sauce, then split it 2 ways. The first portion left over can be frozen for a quick pasta dinner some other time when your in a hurry, and the second portion can be saved for chicken Parmesan for another meal.

Now for the rice, save the first portion for a chicken and rice dinner and the second left over portion for a quick soup made with left overs. Did you notice the mention to the chicken? This is where time is your friend. When you prepare the chicken for your "chicken and rice dinner", you can prepare the chicken for your chicken Parmesan as well. Then you can just freeze your preparation for a different night. There are so many ideas you can come up with by making a simple list and finding common trends. With a little time and effort you can be feeding your family homemade, quick dinners, that are healthy, every night of the week.

No problems so far, approximately one year later. Doesn't get a whole lot of use though. The main complaint is regarding the blender jar pour spout. What an inefficient design! Liquids just spill over the edge then drip down the side of the jar when uprighted. Also, the inside ridges that go from top to bottom which help to knock the food around are poorly placed. There are four, one in the middle of each side. It would be better to have two on each side because having them in the middle makes it hard to use a spatula without making a mess. When scraping contents to spout (such as it is) it exits at either side of the spout. Not a good design. It's nearly enough to earn 3 instead of 4 stars.

I bought this from Macys last Spring and not Amazon because I had a coupon and got it on a deal.It was my retirement present to myself.

I've used this extensively since mostly chopping veggies from the garden and making salsa, chopped tomatoes to freeze, etc. I used the slicing disc once to try it and it worked well.

If I had any complaint it would be its too efficient. At first I could turn about anything including onions, liquid. I had to learn to keep an eye on the material and my hand off that pulse button. Its doesn't take much to chop about anything down to nothing. Easy does it.

I recently tried it to make meatballs by putting pork sausage and burger in the bowl with other ingrediants and it worked great. I'll never do them by hand again.

I've used the chopping blade (not the grating blade) to grate hardened cheeses like Parmeson and Locatelli and it again worked great. I'm sure the grating discs would have done a little better job but I like my grated cheese a little larger in size rather than powdery texture.

It cleans up easily and bowl and lids snap together with ease.

Note/s: With any processor you need to make sure that whatever you're putting into the bowl goes in approximately the same size: quarters of onions, halfs of tomatoes, etc. Otherwise things get chopped in un-even sizes.

I have a small family and a small garden. You may want to look at a bigger size if you need to do a lot of canning and feed large number of people. This size worked for me.

I've had the pleasure of owning the same Cuisinart Food Processor (an old DLC 7 SUPER PRO) for over twenty years and, while it's used primarily for shredding, slicing and sauces, it's never missed a beat! I recently needed replacement parts and discovered this particular model (at least, in NAME) no longer exists. So I took a chance, after doing as much comparing/ researching I could on the internet, and took the plunge: a replacement work bowl and lid, cutter stem and small pusher were purchased at two different websites. Thankfully, Cuisinart hasn't changed their overall design radically over the years and all the purchased parts fit beautifuly. Lucky me!

My 1995 Cuisinart is a lifesaver in the kitchen. I've used this machine way beyond what should be its useful life, but the motor is as strong as ever.

I was crestfallen when the work bowl finally cracked across its bottom and wouldn't hold any liquid. I couldn't find a decently priced replacement before finding this on Amazon, so I improvised a temporary epoxy-repair solution and used my beloved food processor for dry jobs only (grating cheese, crumbing crackers, etc.) until my husband found this replacement bowl.

It's exactly the same quality as the original and it's wonderful to have a clear bowl again (my old one had become clouded from the combination of acidic foods and "cracker crumbing," one of my favorite uses of the old machine).

The price is great and the quality of the bowl is excellent--an exact replica of my original. Just remember this is the bottom portion of the workbowl only & does not include the lock-on lid or pusher assembly.

This is a review of the new Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker.

I have always yearned for a high-quality coffeemaker. I've owned a couple of the cheap drug-store variety but they were a pain to use and never lasted long. I am not a coffeemaker expert, so I really had to sift through product comments online.

I really like the retro look of the Cuisinart coffeemaker. This can be traced to my special affinity with anything vintage. Buying this item was definitely a risk considering a number of users complained about spillage. I will just rely on those people who shared their best practices in avoiding possible misuse of this product. I must say that this blender sated my need for the following functionalities: It is programmable, it has a 1-4 cup selection, it has a charcoal filter and a heat adjustable warming plate. I really could not ask for more for its price.

Most people will find the casing of the blender too tall. It might not fit to some counter spaces. It might also be a hassle if you need to store it in a cabinet and put it out from time to time, whenever you need to use it. This can be a very annoying and time consuming scenario. I must agree that the carafe is sturdy and fits well in a square body. In this way, accidentally bumping or knocking it loose will be avoided. The timer is very manageable to program. The carafe warmer can be set to low, medium and high, depending on your preference. The brewing process is very fast it takes a minute or less only. This blender truly makes superb, warm and hot coffee. This is a coffeemaker that I think will last me a long time.
